Accommodate with shared IP position

The information found in specialized books and web sites about shared IP positions is very contradictory. It is easy to find different opinions, it is said that accommodating with shared IP position is not problematic and that the only important thing is that each web site has its own domain; others advise against using shared IP position.

It is difficult to know exactly the scoring algorithms used by search engines and also to know the criteria used to position web sites. It is also hard to know up to what extent we are penalized by using shared IP addresses with not reliable web sites or with web sites that use penalized techniques.

However, lately the United States Patent Trademark Office (www.uspto.gov) has publicized Google's patent (number 2005 007 1741) that gives us a lot of information about the positioning criteria used by Google. The section number 100 of this patent explains that when a web site has to be positioned Google takes into account its IP address and the used DNS server. In this section it is clearly explain that contact information, server's names and domains' IP addresses that use illegal positioning techniques are classified in a known-bad list.

Therefore IP address has to be taken into account when a server is engaged. The important fact is not whether the IP is shared or not, the important fact is to know which other domains share it. That is, it is essential to make sure that the same server of our Web site doesn't accommodate pornographic web sites or web sites that use non-ethical positioning techniques, because this fact minimizes the legitimacy of these domains. Google also penalizes IP positions that change continuously since this instability proves they are using cheap hosting.

Soporte Multivendor only hosts in its IP positions web sites of reliable companies and that use ethical positioning techniques.
